Dede Griesbauer 7th Overall, Top American Female at 2007 Ironman World Championships!

Dede relishes in a 7th overall and top American in Kona 2007.

Dede Griesbauer had an incredible race along the roads of the Queen K Highway. Unleashing a blazing 53:27 swim, Dede emerged from Dig Me Beach with the leaders and proceeded to trade the lead on the bike with Leanda Cave, an ITU champion. Under clear skies, Dede powered to Hawi shadowing Cave and holding a several minute lead over the chase pack which included the likes of Sarah McGlone, Kate Major, and Belinda Granger. Dede remained strong on the return to T2, posting a 5:13 (21.46mph) bike split and left transition in 2nd place. Hot temperatures made the marathon challenging at best, but Dede put together a more than solid run by averaging 7:42's, a 3:22. Overall winner, Chrissie Wellington of Great Britain, laid down an other-worldly sub three hour marathon to win her first attempt at Hawaii. Kudos to Dede on a truly "Psycho" performance!

Other Psycho's competing in the age-group categories were:

Peter Abdinoor: 10:16:28
Matt Nuffort: 10:22:00
Steve Bosic 10:36:36
Mike Davis: 11:23:47
Micha Ramsey 11:41:28
Roger Little 15:17:52

Dede Griesbauer has that smile of confidence en-route to her best ever Hawaii finish.

Petro Wins Age Group at Long Course Duathlon Nationals
TP'ers Alec Petro, Don Alden and Dave Nerrow trekked to rural central Ohio for the long course duathlon national championship. Distances were 8k / 60k / 8k, which equates to a race of 2:45 duration. Reports indicate that the run course was brutal, with many long 9-11% climbs. As Nerrow stated, "This was most definitely the toughest run course I have experienced since the Mt. Washington road race". Petro was 12th overall, 5th amateur, and was 1st in the M40-44 age group. Nerrow was 15th amateur and 4th AG. Alden rounded out the field with 31st overall and 6th AG. Long Course Duathlon Worlds are in Richmond in 3 short weeks. These three will join Bob Sagor on the start line.

Duxbury Beach Triathlon- AKA Duxbury Beach World Triathlon Championships (local)
Jarrod Shoemaker, fresh off his Olympic qualifying performance in ITU Beijing, jetted into Boston and made the sojourn to the south shore to compete in the Duxbury Beach Triathlon, aka DBWTC. Jarrod's smoking fast swim suggested he was not suffering the after effects of jet lag as he excited the water well clear of the rest of the field. Uberbiker, Dean Phillips, of Fit Werx North, passed Jarrod on the bike (the same Dean Phillips who recently shattered TT records in Concord and the North Shore). Records held by Mark McCormick and Tyler Hamilton, respectively. In true Psycho and Shoemaker fashion, Jarrod smoked the run. Can you say 4:50/m splits!!!!!... to grab some tape and the $250.00 first prize. Congratulations to Jarrod on a superlative week of racing...an Olympic slot and DBWTC win in the same week!

TP members filled 8 of the top 10 places overall in the men's division, with Peter Abdinoor leading the way behind Shoemaker with a fourth place overall finish. The Goddess, Karen Smyers, at 47 years young, took a strong third in the women's elite ranks. While Mike Davis and the "Father of Modern Triathlon", Don Callahan, dominated the 50-55 and 55-59 waves, respectively. Overall, TP raced over 25 athletes and placed 18 among the top 23 overall finishers in the race. TP ruled the age-groups categories, winning no fewer than six. Finally, Carmen (Big Daddy) Monks, a pre-race favorite, is now using the moniker BD for "Been Dropped" at DBWTC after a somewhat sub-par performance. Overall Results Here.

Shoemaker lands 2008 Olympic Berth
Jarrod Shoemaker, TP's Elite Development Athlete, displayed the ultimate in Psycho Karma (see picture) by finishing as the top American (11th overall) at the Beijing ITU Championships, a USA qualifier for the 2008 Olympics. Shoemaker used a top 10 run, 31:35 10k, to pass ITU star Hunter Kemper as well as superstar swimmer, Andy Potts. More.

Jarrod digs deep (into his stomach) in the last 100m to earn Olympic Slot!

Firm Man Half Iron
Five Psychos competed in the FIRM Half in Naragansett, RI on Sep 10th. After a calm swim in Naragansett Bay, a rolling bike on the scenic, four-lane highways of the Ocean State, and a sultry run through meandering neighborhood cul de sacs, the TP squad netted three age group wins and posted solid performances across the board. Mike Davis, in the midst of his Kona preparations, led the way with a 4:36, a M50-54 win and 13th place overall. Josh Black won the M35-29 age group by a scant 10 seconds and placed 17th overall, followed by Skip Thomas, who used the race to train for Xterra Worlds in October but still swam 25:40 and split 2:28 on the bike. Vinu Malik, two weeks off of a solid effort at IM Canada, finished strong and showed his usual race Karma. Karen Monks, in her first race since delivering her third kid, raced strong and won the F40-44 category. Psychos on the course were buoyed by the weaving minivan cheering squad consisting of BD and offspring. See all results.

Mike Davis Wins Age Group at IronMan Coeur D'Alene
The morning of IronMan CDA saw whitecaps on normally tranquil Hayden Lake. Race organizers tried to cancel the swim and offered competitors the option of a long duathlon. Eventually, the race went off as planned, but conditions were hostile. Iron Mike Davis persevered through a rough swim, laid down a solid bike, and ran a 3:30 marathon to finish his 14th IM in 10:34, grab an age group win (M50-55) and nab his seventh Kona slot.

June 12-17
Team Psycho 2nd at Race Across America
The formidable Team Psycho squad of Dave Nerrow, Alec Petro, Dave Dornaus and Jeff Henderson finished second at the Race Across America, completing the 3,052 mile race in 5 days, 21 hours and 48 minutes. In what is billed as the "World's Toughest Race" Team Psycho and their incredible crew was the surprise rookie of the 2007 team race, TP led the race for the first 100 miles, then held second place all the way to the finish in Atlantic City, NJ. A valiant team effort brought them to within 200 meters of the lead at the 1,300 mile point, but in the end, 3 time returning championTeam Beaver Creek bested TP by 3hrs 26mins. While BC's mathematical average speed was 21.99mph, TP's was 21.46mph. TP suffered 45 mins of penalties to BC's 15 penalty mins, so the net time difference was sub 3 hours, after 138 hours of nonstop racing! Third place was almost a full day behind Team Psycho. See all results.
