3 Psychos in Top 10 males, 2 among Top 10 women at Ironman USA.
3 Psychos, led by Carmen "Big Daddy" Monks came in among the top 10 finishers at IronMan USA in Lake Placid, NY. Karen Smyers and Dede Griesbauer both finished in the top 10 women with Smyers finishing 4th and Griesebauer 8th. A race that included pro women but no professional males gave an opportunity for several psychos to vie for a podium spot or a top 10 finish and the Psychos did not dissapoint. Carmen Monks led all Pschos from the get go, coming out of the water in 56 minutes, backing that up with a strong bike split and then putting together a 3:05 Marathon to finish in 9:30:29. Good enough for 4th overall and a sure Hawaii slot. On the Womens side, Karen Smyers battled with her protege, Griesbauer, catching and passing Dede on the bike and then cruising to a 3:26 run for 4th place among women and 26th overall. Other strong performances of note were Dave "ATB" Nerrow who finished 8th overall and 2nd in his age group at 9:40:01 and Jeff Hunt who finished less than 2 minutes later at 9:41:41. Of the 11 Psychos that started the race, 7 qualified for Hawaii and all 11 finished in under 12 hours including first Time IronMan Kristin McGowan in 11:54:08. . See results.
